All Knit Sherberts

The Creative Crafts Show

Shepton Mallet - April 2009

April showers brought flowers to the Guild of Machine Knitters’ stand this year.  “Knitting in Bloom” was the theme.  Seasons were ignored. Flowers were everywhere.

Members of Sherborne  & District Knitting Club & Westbury Woollies produced jumpers, hats and bags decorated with flowers.  For the banner backing the stand,  members were asked to knit 15 flowers each.  The flowers were then sorted and arranged so that each letter was in a single colour. Foxgloves decorated the corners, a few snails sneaked in along the bottom and even butterflies were fooled into landing among the blooms.

Despite the lack of exhibitors for machine knitting needs, we had lots visitors to the stand who were interested in our demonstrations and knitted items.  Many, as usual, had machines in the loft and they left encouraged to start knitting again.

With the current credit crunch, now is the time to get those machines out and get knitting your own clothes and accessories.  You may have a market where you can sell your creations, thus giving the family budget a boost.

Machine knitting requires concentration, so it is easy forget daily cares and worries and a  completed garment gives a wonderful feeling of achievement.  Knitting clubs are a great way to meet other knitters and make new friends.

Hopefully the current upsurge of interest in knitting will continue and we will be at next years’ show.
